Norwich School
Tracing its origins to 1096, Norwich School is one of the oldest surviving schools in the United Kingdom. It was founded as an episcopal grammar school by Herbert de Losing, Bishop of Norwich. In 1547, it was re‑established under a royal charter from Edward VI and settled at its current site beside Norwich Cathedral in 1551. Today it is an independent, co‑educational day school for pupils aged approximately 3–18, set within the historic Cathedral Close. The school divides its provision between a Lower School for younger pupils and a Senior School for older students, and maintains a close relationship with the Cathedral for assemblies and events. Notable alumni include Lord Nelson and Sir Edward Coke, among others; the school remains renowned for its strong academic performance and vibrant culture of scholarship and respect.

Royal Grammar School
Founded by Thomas Horsley, Mayor of Newcastle, in 1525, the Royal Grammar School Newcastle is the city’s oldest institution of learning and received royal foundation under Queen Elizabeth I. It is a leading independent co‑educational day school for pupils aged 7–18, currently enrolling over 1,300 students across junior, senior, and Sixth Form levels.
